You have a better chance of surviving breast cancer and will have fewer complications if you find it early. Because of the increased use of mammograms and better treatments, more women survive breast cancer today.</li><li>If 1,000 women get a mammogram every two years from age 50 to 74 years, we will prevent 8 women from dying from breast cancer.</li><li>If 1,000 women get a mammogram every two years from age 50 to 74 years, we will prevent 9 to 10 women from dying from breast cancer.</li><ul>.0..1display

About half of all women will have a false positive result at some time in their life if they opt for screening every 2 years between the ages of 50 and 74 years. This can cause anxiety and unnecessary follow-up tests. Sometimes these tests can be more invasive or even hurt you.</li><li>If 1,000 women choose to start screening at age 40 years, instead of age 50 years, there will be an additional 576 false positive mammograms (some women will have more than one false positive) and 67 benign biopsies.</li></ul>.0..1display
