It has the advantage of being done less frequently &ndash; often every 10 years. It does require medicine to clean out your bowels, anesthesia, and a ride to and from the test.</li><li>A <em>sigmoidoscopy</em> is like a colonoscopy, but it is a shorter tube that only looks at the first three feet of your colon. It is done every 5 to 10 years. It still requires medicine to clean out your bowels but does not use anesthesia. It is not available in many communities.</li><li>A <em>CT colonoscopy</em> is a CT scan to look at your colon. It can find polyps and cancer and is done every 5 years. It does require medicine to clean out your bowels. If the results are abnormal, you need a colonoscopy to follow-up.<ul><li>A <em>FIT or FOBT</em> test look for microscopic blood in your stool. They can be done at home and are generally quick and easy. They need to be done every year and you have to collect a small stool sample.</li><li>A <em>stool DNA test</em> looks for microscopic blood and changes in the DNA in your stool. It can find more cancers than the stool blood tests but may not be better over time. They have more false positives, so you are more likely to need a follow-up colonoscopy. value="<h4>Tests That Look at Your Colon</h4>There are three tests that look at your colon: a colonoscopy, a flexible sigmoidoscopy, and a CT colonography (virtual colonoscopy).<ul><li>A <em>colonoscopy</em> is a long tube put in your rectum to look for growths in the colon. It has the advantage of being done less frequently &ndash; often every 10 years. It does require medicine to clean out your bowels, anesthesia, and a ride to and from the test.</li><li>A <em>sigmoidoscopy</em> is like a colonoscopy, but it is a shorter tube that only looks at the first three feet of your colon. It is done every 5 to 10 years. It still requires medicine to clean out your bowels but does not use anesthesia. It is not available in many communities.</li><li>A <em>CT colonoscopy</em> is a CT scan to look at your colon. It can find polyps and cancer and is done every 5 years. It does require medicine to clean out your bowels. Sometimes if finds things outside the colon and we not sure if this helps or hurts people.</li></ul>"/>

value="<h4>Tests That Look at Your Stool</h4>There are two types of tests that look at your stool: tests that look for microscopic blood or tests that look for abnormal DNA changes. If the results are abnormal, you need a colonoscopy to follow-up.<ul><li>A <em>FIT or FOBT</em> test look for microscopic blood in your stool. They can be done at home and are generally quick and easy. They need to be done every year and you have to collect a small stool sample.</li><li>A <em>stool DNA test</em> looks for microscopic blood and changes in the DNA in your stool. It can find more cancers than the stool blood tests but may not be better over time. They have more false positives, so you are more likely to need a follow-up colonoscopy. They need to be done every 1 to 3 years and you have to collect an entire bowel movement.</li></ul>"/>
